The Forte 5-Door's Debut

The Kia Forte 5-Door hatchback was made available in 2011, just one year after the sedan and Koup versions hit the United States. The Forte replaced the Spectra, the Kia's previous compact car. The Kia Forte 5-Door first showed up at the 2010 New York Auto Show, and production models began in 2011.

Trims and Options

The Forte 5-Door can be had in two trims: the base EX and upscale SX.  Every model is equipped with important safety features like electronic stability control, seat and front side airbags, and anti-lock brakes. Even the base model gets upscale features like CD/MP3 player, satellite radio, a USB input, and Bluetooth connectivity. The SX trim adds options like metal pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED daytime running lights, and a sport-tuned suspension.

Powertrains and Efficiency

The Forte 5-Door EX model gets a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that's good for 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque, while the SX gets a 2.4L four-cylinder that cranks out 173 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque. Both provide plenty of power for an engaging ride in the small hatchback. The Forte 5-Door is equipped with a six-speed Sportmatic transmission with overdrive.
