The Kia Sedona: a Family-Friendly Minivan

 Families throughout the Cedar Rapids area have long turned to the Kia Sedona for their transportation needs, and we're proud to offer it at McGrath Kia in Hiawatha. It's a versatile vehicle that can accommodate the whole family; considered along with its comfortable ride and good feature set, it's clear that this is one of the top family haulers out there. The Sedona's second generation began with the 2006 model year and continues to the 2012 edition - let's take a look at what it has offered over that span.

The Second-Generation Sedona

The redesign of the Sedona from its first generation saw Kia's versatile minivan lose about 400 pounds; it got a lighter engine, transmission, and rear suspension, and used more high-tensile steel in its body than the previous model.

It was first introduced to North American drivers at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show; at the time, that first 2006 model was only offered with a 3.8L V6 engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. At first, it was only offered as a long-wheelbase model, though a short-wheelbase model was offered for the 2007 model year. It was refreshed for the 2011 model year, getting a new grille and taillights, along with a more powerful engine and a new six-speed automatic transmission. Also for 2011, the short-wheelbase model was dropped.

The 2012 Kia Sedona comes equipped with a 271 hp 3.5L V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. Of course, the interior is also tremendously versatile, with three rows of seating and 142 cubic feet of maximum cargo space.

Unfortunately, Kia has indicated that the Sedona will be discontinued after the 2012 model year, though we expect that the automaker will reenter the minivan market before too long.
