In government safety tests, Kia's family sedan has earned an incredible rating of five stars in both front and passenger crash tests, while Honda's sedan scored five and four stars respectively. Adding to its list of merits, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety chose the new Optima as a Top Safety Pick for 2012, citing excellent performance in all crash tests.

Kia also offers a superior warranty plan for the 2013 Optima, guaranteeing basic warranty coverage for 60 months/6000 miles and powertrain coverage for 120 months/100,000 miles, compared to the 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty and 60-month/60,000-miles powertrain warranty offered by Honda.
