The Kia Rio From 2005 to 2011
The second generation of the Rio was introduced in 2005 for the 2006 model year in North America. It got a revised platform that is shared with the Hyundai Accent and more power with the new Alpha II 1.6L DOHC four cylinder which made 110 hp. Depending on the market, it was also available with a 96 hp 1.4L engine and a 1.5L turbodiesel.
The second generation featured changes to exterior styling and overall a larger size both inside and out. Also important was a boosted fuel economy rating, which was as high as 34 mpg on the highway in 2011. The Rio was available in both a sedan and a hatchback version called the Rio5. While the hatchback was available in only one SX trim level, the sedan was available in a base model and an LX trim, which added air conditioning, power steering, and a CD player.
Starting in 2009, all Kia Rio models received SiriusXM Satellite Radio, USB connection and auxiliary audio connection.
The Rio got a facelift in 2010 and adopted the new company wide tiger nose grille and new exterior styling. The steering wheel was also revised to match the Kia Soul and the Kia Forte. Bluetooth handsfree connectivity was available at that point, and other minor changes included altered headlights, tail lights, and gauges.
