2nd Generation Kia Soul

The Second Generation of the Kia Soul

The Soul has made such a name for itself that you'd think it had been around forever; however, the Kia Soul is still a new kid on the block. Its success might partially be because of the computer-animated hamsters from the car's famous ads, but mostly we think it's because the Soul offers unique and fun style with functionality to back it up. It's no wonder that this vehicle has been so popular among drivers in the Cedar Rapids area. The Soul just debuted in 2010, and it's still in its first generation. There haven't been a whole lot of changes in the three model years since it debuted, so here's a summary of some of the highlights that are common to all three model years that have graced our dealership in Hiawatha.

Trims and Options

The Kia Soul has made a name for itself based on its fantastic value, unique styling, and all-around quality. The hatchback body style provides a surprising amount of room for a compact car, making it an easy choice for anyone who needs a little more cargo space than most compact sedans offer.

The Kia Soul is available in base, +, !, and Sport trim levels. All versions get anti-lock brakes, power windows and doors, satellite radio, an iPod compatible-USB jack, and a four-speaker sound system. If you opt for a higher trim level, you can get bigger alloy wheels (up to 18 inches), Bluetooth connectivity, an upgraded audio system, and a sunroof.

In 2010 and 2011, the base model got a 1.6L Gamma four-cylinder that made 122 hp. That engine was updated for the 2012 model year with direct injection, improving power to 138 hp. The higher trim levels receive a 2.0L four-cylinder engine; before 2012, it was a 142-hp Beta II engine or a 164-hp engine.

The SX is also eligible for a number of other options, including heated leather seats, push-button start, and a navigation system.
