The First Generation of the Kia Sedona Minivan

The Kia Sedona has been a well-equipped and functional choice for Cedar Rapids families looking for a minivan since it debuted in 2002. The Kia made a splash in the United States when it came out, winning fans and becoming Kia's best-selling vehicle. If you're shopping for a used minivan, a Sedona from this era is a great choice. Here are some of the highlights that made the first-generation Kia Sedona a winner at our Hiawatha dealership.

A Package of Value, Safety, and Convenience

One of the reasons that the Kia Sedona was immediately popular was its impressive array of standard features and its low price point. A used first-generation Sedona - representing models from 2002 to 2005 - will probably represent a great value.

The first-generation Sedona came in either a base LX model or an upscale EX trim. Both versions got a 3.5L V6 engine that generated a respectable 195 hp. It also boasted the first five-speed automatic transmission in the minivan segment.

Inside, the Sedona came with plenty of convenience features standard. These included front and rear air conditioning, power windows and locks, automatic headlights, AM/FM/cassette six-speaker audio system, and cruise control.

Both the LX and EX versions could seat seven, but the EX got second-row captain's chairs where the LX got a second-row bench seat. In both models, the second- and third-row seats could be adjusted or removed, resulting in 127 cubic feet of useable cargo space.

The EX got some stylish upgrades like polished alloy wheels, body colored mirrors, and a roof rack. On a used EX, you can also expect luxurious interior touches like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and wood-grain trim. Some available options on both trim levels were anti-lock brakes, a sunroof, leather upholstery, and the HomeLink universal garage door opener.
