2023 Kia Telluride

Kia provides the kind of coverage that gives Iowa City drivers peace of mind when they purchase a Kia vehicle. What is the warranty on a Kia? How does the Kia bumper-to-bumper warranty differ from the Kia powertrain warranty? Is the Kia warranty transferable? We break down the different kinds of warranties below that come with every Kia vehicle in our showroom, and exactly what they cover.

What is the Warranty on a Kia Vehicle?

So, what is the warranty on a Kia? Kia actually provides multiple kinds of warranty coverage. Everything from the Kia powertrain warranty to the Kia bumper-to-bumper warranty is provided. The powertrain warranty is probably the best known, as it covers the Kia engine components for 100,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. Here's a list of the different kinds of coverage:

  • 10-year/100,000 mile limited Kia powertrain warranty
  • 5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty (Kia bumper-to-bumper warranty)
  • 5-year/100,000 mile limited anti-perforation warranty
  • 5-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance plan
  • Trip Interruption - reasonable reimbursement for meals, lodging, or rental car expenses

What the Kia Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty Covers

The Kia bumper-to-bumper warranty, or Kia Basic Warranty, lasts for 5 years or 60,000 miles from the point the vehicle enters service, whichever comes first. This specific warranty coverage encompasses every component of your Kia automobile, but does not cover maintenance or wear and tear. This can include problems with your battery, entertainment system, air conditioning, and much more.

Specific individual elements of your Kia might have different timeframes/mileage limits, but the warranty as a whole lasts that full 5 years or 60,000 miles.

What the Kia Powertrain Warranty Covers

When most drivers buy a vehicle, they want to be confident that the car is going to run reliably on our Cedar Rapids roads for years to come. The Kia powertrain warranty instills that kind of confidence due to how long it covers the vehicle. This coverage lasts for 10 years or 100,000 miles from the point the basic warranty ends, whichever comes first. It covers specific mechanical components of your car, including:

  • Engine - Cylinder block, cylinder head and all internal parts, timing gear, seals and gaskets, valve cover, flywheel, oil pump, water pump, and turbo charger.
  • Transmission - Transmission case, transfer case, torque converter and all internal parts, seals, and gaskets.
  • Differentials - Front and rear differential assemblies, cases, all internal parts, seals and gaskets.

Is the Kia Warranty Transferable?

A great selling point for any used vehicle is if it's still covered by warranty. Is the Kia warranty transferable to the next owner? Yes! All of the warranties detailed above are transferable to a new owner, with one adjustment: the 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty is swapped for a 5-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.
