The Kia Sportage was introduced in 1993 as a body-on-frame small Sport Utility Vehicle. Standard Features

When it was introduced in 1993, the Kia Sportage was one of the first compact SUVs on the market. It was sold in both as a five-door wagon and a two-door convertible. Just looking at this model is enough to encourage drivers to get out and enjoy some serious off-roading adventures! Engine and Performance

The base model's engine only produced 94 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque, but there are plenty of the other trim levels out there for purchase if you are looking for more power. The 4X4 version came equipped with a twincam 2.0L engine that produced 139 hp, while the EX trim came with 4WD. Drivers could expect to find an optional four-speed automatic transmission available on all the 4WD models.

Good Reliability History

The early model Sportage has a good reliability history. There were minimal recorded problems with the engine, transmission and driveline, steering and suspension, brakes, heating and air conditioning, starting and charging, and accessories.
